CBS is gearing up for its late-night reboot, “After Midnight,” a revival of the Comedy Central series @midnight. This new show will replace “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in the 12:30 am time slot and is set to launch in early 2024. The network has made key staffing decisions for the show, while it is also narrowing down the field for a host.
The network has selected the showrunners and executive producing team for “After Midnight.” Jack Martin, who previously served as the showrunner for all four seasons of Comedy Central’s @midnight, will co-showrun the reboot alongside Eric Pierce. The executive producers include Stephen Colbert, president of Colbert’s Spartina Industries Carrie Byalick, Tom Purcell, Evelyn McGee Colbert, James Dixon of Dixon Talent, Joe Farrell, Mike Farah, Whitney Hodack, Henry R. Muñoz III from Funny Or Die, and Jason U. Nadler of Serious Business. However, Chris Hardwick, who hosted the original show, is not involved in the reboot.
Comedian Jo Firestone, known for her work on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Ziwe,” will serve as head writer and co-executive producer. The reboot is currently considering three potential hosts: Taylor Tomlinson, X Mayo, and Ricky Velez. A decision on the host is expected soon.
“After Midnight” is produced by Spartina Industries, CBS Studios, and Funny or Die. This show is aimed at filling the slot left vacant after James Corden’s departure from “The Late Late Show.”
Stephen Colbert expressed excitement about the show’s revival, saying, “We are thrilled to be reunited with our friends at Funny Or Die. My hope is that, every night, ‘After Midnight’ will be just as ridiculous as the internet is every day. Plus, the original @midnight aired after ‘The Colbert Report,’ so welcoming this new show to 12:30 feels like coming home.” Funny Or Die Owner Henry R. Muñoz III also expressed enthusiasm, saying, “I’m excited for this show to harness the power of comedy and laughter to bring us all together.”
