CBS to Air Tribute Special for Bob Barker
CBS has announced that it will air a tribute special in honor of the legendary television host Bob Barker, titled “The Price Is Right: A Tribute to Bob Barker.” The special is set to air on August 31 at 8 p.m. and will be hosted by Drew Carey, Barker’s friend and successor as the host of “The Price Is Right.”
The tribute will feature highlights from Bob Barker’s remarkable life and career. It will include significant moments from his tenure as the host of “The Price Is Right,” such as the first episode of the show in 1972, the transition to one-hour episodes and the introduction of the iconic game Plinko. The special will also showcase Barker’s interactions with contestants, his final episode before retiring in 2007, his return to the show for special occasions, and his impact on the show’s history.
Margot Wain, Senior Vice President of daytime programs at CBS, expressed the significance of the tribute in celebrating Bob Barker’s legacy. She noted his unique hosting abilities, his dedication to animal activism, and his role as a true friend.
Bob Barker, who passed away at the age of 99, hosted “The Price Is Right” for an impressive 35 years, from 1972 to 2007. During his tenure, he garnered numerous awards, including 14 Daytime Emmy Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The special is produced by Fremantle, with Evelyn Warfel serving as the executive producer and showrunner. In addition to the tribute special, CBS will also air an encore broadcast of the special during the regular weekday timeslot for “The Price Is Right” on September 4. The special will undoubtedly offer fans a heartfelt tribute to the iconic host who left a lasting legacy in the world of television.
