Federal Law Enforcement Executes Search Warrant at WWE: Vince McMahon Faces Investigation

Federal law enforcement agents recently executed a search warrant and served a federal grand jury subpoena to WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon, as disclosed in a regulatory filing. This news comes amidst recent medical leave taken by McMahon following spinal surgery.

The filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission revealed that government investigations into McMahon are still ongoing, but as of now, no charges have been brought against him. WWE has been receiving legal demands for documents, both voluntary and compulsory, from various authorities regarding the investigation and related matters.

In a statement, WWE emphasized its full cooperation with the government throughout the investigation, respecting the need for a thorough process. Last year, the company conducted its own investigation into allegations of misconduct, including an alleged $3 million payment from McMahon to a departing female employee after a consensual affair. The internal review concluded in November 2022.

Addressing the situation, Vince McMahon stated that he has consistently denied any intentional wrongdoing and remains confident that the government’s investigation will not find any evidence of wrongdoing.

During WWE’s second-quarter earnings call, CEO Nick Khan announced McMahon’s major spinal surgery and his subsequent medical leave for recovery. The duration of the leave was not specified.

In terms of financial performance, WWE reported earnings of $52 million, or 67 cents per share, for the quarter. Revenue reached a record $410.3 million, with a 51% increase in revenue from live events for the period ending June 30.

WWE’s merger with UFC to form the new publicly listed company TKO Group Holdings is still expected to be completed in the second half of the year. As the deal progresses, WWE is also focused on domestic media rights for its weekly television programs, including negotiations with potential partners like Fox, NBC Universal, Disney, and Amazon.

Despite the ongoing investigations and medical leave of Vince McMahon, WWE continues to see positive viewership trends, with shows like “Smackdown,” “Raw,” and “NXT” gaining traction among the 18-49 demographic.
