The country singer and Ussery were said to have split up earlier this month, a claim which his reps played down – admitting that they had problems that they were working on.
Now Aldean has filed for divorce, and has said “She will always be important to me”.
The 36-year-old and his childhood sweetheart have been married for 12 years, but their marriage hit a rocky patch after he was caught kissing American Idol star Brittany Kerr. They married in 2001 and have two daughters, 10-year-old Keeley and five-year-old Kendyl.
In court documents obtained by People magazine, it shows that Aldean filed for divorce on April 26 citing irreconcilable differences as the reason behind the split. It confirms that the couple had split following the cheating scandal that surrounded Aldean seven months ago.
In a statement to People, Aldean said: “This is a really tough time for my entire family. Jessica and I have been together since we were teenagers. We’ve been through a lot of ups and downs over the years as we grew up together as a couple. She will always be important to me because she is the mother of my children, and I know that we will both always make our daughters our number one priority.”
Just a day before Aldean filed for divorce, his rep told the magazine that the couple’s marriage was going through a rocky patch.
“I can confirm that Jason and his wife are having problems, but there is nothing more to share with the press at this time,” his rep said.
“It’s a private family matter, and we hope everyone will respect that he would like to keep it that way.”
The Don’t You Wanna Stay singer issued a public apology for the incident, while Kerr called it a lapse in judgement.
