Columbia Records is welcoming the newest member of its family – Pharrell Williams. The hit-making producer has signed a record deal with Columbia and is planning to release an album under the label next year.
Among the tracks to be featured on the album will be his single “Happy,” which is also included on the soundtrack for the film Despicable Me 2.
Pharrell recently made headlines by releasing a 24-hour-long music video for the song.
In a statement, Columbia Records CEO Rob Stringer says “‘Happy’ is just the beginning” of Pharrell’s career as a “global solo superstar.” Stringer also praised Pharrell for his work on the summer hits “Blurred Lines” and “Get Lucky.”
Pharrell recently hinted at an upcoming project. He’s revealed that the album will be rap-free, however, he insists he’s not giving up on hip-hop forever.
