Starz’s Pro Wrestling Drama “Heels” Canceled After Second Season
Starz has decided not to renew its pro wrestling drama series, “Heels,” for a third season. The decision to cancel the show was made after the second season and was attributed to low viewership, which may have been influenced by factors like a strike by the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) that prevented actors from promoting the series. Additionally, there was a long delay between the first and second seasons due to Lionsgate and STARZ separating, which may have impacted the show’s momentum.
“Heels” was a drama series that explored the lives of individuals pursuing their dreams in the world of small-town professional wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, the show followed a family-owned wrestling promotion and the conflicts and rivalries within it. The series centered on two brothers and rivals, Jack Spade and Ace Spade, as they grappled with their late father’s legacy and sought their own versions of success.
The show featured a talented cast, including Stephen Amell as Jack Spade, Alexander Ludwig as Ace Spade, Alison Luff, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, Chris Bauer, Trey Tucker, and others.
“Heels” was created by Michael Waldron, with Mike O’Malley serving as the showrunner and executive producer. The series was produced by O’Malley Ink and LBI Entertainment in association with Lionsgate Television for STARZ.
The cancellation of “Heels” marks the end of the series after its second season and brings an end to the story of wrestling, family, and ambition that it portrayed.
